Write down the three most important tasks
We’ve already discussed the importance of identifying your most important tasks and tackling them appropriately. If you can identify these tasks early on, start your day by writing them down on a piece of paper next to your desk. This is useful for staying motivated, staying focused, and simply – remembering – what your day is shaping up to be in terms of your workload.
Use website blockers
One minute you’re researching the best tips on how to stay productive while working from home, the next moment you’re watching a video of a man-eating nine watermelons in five minutes. It happens, don’t pretend it doesn’t. Luckily, there are some great apps and add-ons for your browser that can block out distracting websites such as Youtube or Facebook. Try Freedom, StayFocused, or cold turkey.
Listen to ambient music
Did you know that highly instrumental music without any lyrics is great to listen to while working? It keeps you motivated but doesn’t distract your mind from the work at hand. This means you might be better off ditching Taylor Swift in favor of Tchaikovsky, for the working day at least.
Start your day with ‘tough’ or ‘easy’
The approach is different but the effect is the same – to start your day with a WIN. Whether it’s the easiest task of the day or the toughest, making it your first priority in the day will motivate you for one of two reasons:
Completing the easiest task will help you build momentum.
Completing the toughest task will make all other tasks feel easier.
Whichever approach you choose, this is one of the best ways to start your day at work – at home or in the office.
